It is flu season again and we all know fairly well what we have to cope with if we catch the flu.  Time for chills, fever, headaches, muscle aches, runny nose, etc. Very annoying symptoms.  While most people visit their doctor for a treatment, a lot of people prefer to take natural flu remedies.  Take these home remedies with a grain of salt. If you are suffering from intense flu symptoms, the best thing that you can do for your personal health is to visit your doctor.  In some cases, the flu can lead to other problems such as ear infections and pneumonia.
Drink large amount of fluids - vegetable/fruit juices and soups.
By letting the mucus membranes that line the respiratory tract get dehydrated, we create a 'friendly' environment for the virus.  When drinking plenty of fluids and/or using a vaporizer, we help maintain a moist respiratory tract that resists viral infection and replace the fluids that we lose thru perspiration and runny nose.
Goldenseal is a powerful herb that stimulates the immune response.  It contains a natural antibiotic that can help prevent bacterial infections.  Goldenseal tea will help you clear the mucus from your throat and it is highly recommended.  To make tea, steep 1 tsp goldenseal in 1 pint of water for 20 minutes.  Have one cup every 8 hours.
Echinacea is supossed to work wonders with powerful antiviral and immunity boosting effects, strengthening your resistance to infections.  Mix 1 cup of water with 2 tsp of echinacea and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes.  Drink 1 cup every 8 hours.
Apples: Either raw or as apple juice, found to be beneficial for working against runny nose, fevers and inflammation.  On an empty stomach, they are good laxatives.  An apple a day... keeps the doctor away.
Dark grapes: Also found to be beneficial when having a runny nose.
Chicken soup is a popular choice for reducing the cold symptoms, such as congestion.  It is said to contain antibiotic properties which can work against the influenza virus

More tips...
Garlic: It is a powerful cleanser of the mucous membranes, especially those of the lungs, nose, sinuses and the throat.  Avoid all dairy products.  They will make your mucus thicker.
Onion: Similar to garlic.
Hot spicy foods, those that make your eyes water, will help you drain your nose.
As a sore throat cure, try to gargle 1 tablespoon vinegar to an 8 ounce glass of warm water.  Another home recipe for sore throat: gargle with pure fresh wheatgrass chlorophyll.
Apply petroleum jelly in and around your nostrils if your nose is getting sensitive due to all the symptoms.
If you’re having trouble sleeping due to congestion, try elevating your head so that you can breathe more clearly.
Avoid smoking.  Smoking increases your susceptibility to all kinds of respiratory infections.
